Yes — downloading the app and creating an account is completely free. You only pay when you book a shuttle, and the price you see is the price you pay. No booking fees are added to the passenger price. Operators pay Shuttlr a 10% commission from what they earn.
Your payment is held in escrow and never touches the operator's account until they confirm your seat. If an operator does not respond within 24 hours, your full payment is automatically refunded — no forms, no waiting, no hassle. This is built into the core of how Shuttlr works.
Every operator goes through a 5-step verification process before their listings go public: (1) Company registration with CIPC number, (2) Owner identity — SA ID document + selfie, (3) Document upload — CIPC cert, PDP / operator's licence, roadworthy certificates, (4) Driver registration — each driver submits their PDP and a photo, (5) Vehicle registration — each vehicle's plate, make and roadworthy cert is logged. Our team reviews all documents manually before approval.
ID verification protects everyone. Drivers know exactly who is boarding their vehicle. It reduces no-shows, builds accountability and creates a safer environment for both sides. Your ID number and documents are reviewed only by Shuttlr admin — they are never shared with operators, drivers or other passengers. Only your name and profile photo are visible to drivers.
Registration and listing are completely free. Shuttlr only earns when you earn — we deduct a 10% commission from each confirmed booking payment. There are no monthly fees, no upfront costs and no charge for listings that don't convert to bookings.
Shuttlr will launch in Cape Town and Johannesburg, covering events in the Western Cape and Gauteng regions. Durban and Pretoria are planned for Q4 2026. Operators from any city can register now to be ready for when their region goes live.
At launch, Shuttlr will be available on Android (Google Play) and via the web app at shuttlr.co.za — which works perfectly on any iPhone browser. A native iOS app is planned for 2027.
